Our Region

Located on the Sunset Coast, north of Perth, the City of Wanneroo was first established as a shire in 1961 and became a City in 1985.

Delve into the captivating history behind the name ‘Wanneroo’. Inspired by our indigenous past, the word ‘Wanna’, means digging stick used by Aboriginal women and ‘Roo’ meaning ‘the place of ’.

Just like the Nyoongar people, early settlers harnessed the natural resources of the ‘lakes district’, laying the foundation for a thriving community.

Whilst proud of our rich cultural heritage, the region is fast evolving into a vibrant modern destination with top-notch dining, adventure experiences and vibrant events all year round.
