Dining delights and stunning sunsets: a perfect summer day in the City of Wanneroo

If your idea of a perfect summer day includes salty hair, fresh seafood, a cocktail in hand and front-row seats to a world-class sunset, welcome to the City of Wanneroo, where coastal charm and culinary delights collide.

Whether you’re a beach baby, a brunch lover or a sunset chaser (or all three), this slice of WA’s coastline is calling your name.

Start with a splash

Dive right into your day – there’s so much to see and do! The surf breaks are local favourites for good reason: uncrowded, scenic, and with that wild, untamed West Coast vibe.

Early risers and wave seekers should head straight to the beach between Yanchep and Two Rocks known by locals as “The Spot,” with slightly higher waves and a lefthand break along the southern calcarenite reef.

Yanchep Locals is known for its consistent waves and unique surf conditions. The spot provides both left and right waves, making it accessible for surfers of all levels. Nearby Rafts provides another option off the beaten track.

Beginners can stick closer to shore at Yanchep Lagoon, a calmer, turquoise haven perfect for swimming, snorkelling or just floating your way into holiday mode. There’s even a café nearby for your post-dip coffee fix, and Yanchep Surf Lifesaving Club patrols the beach over weekends and public holidays between October and April.

Travelling with little ones or prefer a more relaxed dip? Quinns Rocks Beach is your go-to. It’s protected from high waves by the offshore reefs, and the beach is patrolled by Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club. It’s also dog-friendly to the north, so even the furry family members can tag along.

Whichever beach you pick for your dip, always swim between the red and yellow flags, and stay surf safe on our beautiful coast.

Beachside brunches

By mid-morning, it’s time to swap beach towels for brunch menus. Oceans 27 in Alkimos delivers a top-tier beachfront dining experience, from benni bagels at brunch, to seafood platters at sunset. Set yourself up with a cocktail at golden hour and feast on a specular Indian Ocean sunset.

Enclosed children’s playground, panoramic ocean views and farm-fresh seasonal selections? Say less! Head to the Amberton Beach Bar and Kitchen to enjoy a casual meal from the covered alfresco, admire ocean views with a cocktail from the beach club, or peruse the produce sourced from the venue’s very own family owned and operated farm.

Offering everything from brekky burgers to bruschetta and buttermilk pancakes, seaside Portofinos Restaurant has something to please everyone in your party. And if time is of the essence or you’d like to eat while enjoying the nearby walk trails, take advantage of their generous takeaway menu options and keep the day rolling.

Feeling fancy? The Beach House on Eden Beach Foreshore Park serves memorable menu options like Lobster Prawn Scramble, Agedashi Tofu Protein Pokes and Twisted Espresso Martinis – don’t mind if we do! During Summer, you can enjoy some family fun at The Cubby House, with its own licensed bar and food offering and watch the kids play.

Sandy feet and sandy paws are all welcome at the Jindalee Beach Shack. Overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and boasting uninterrupted views along the coast, Jindalee Beach Shack is the ideal destination to kick back and relax.

Seaside sunsets

The Cabana Pool Bar and BBQ at The Marina, Mindarie is an unbeatable spot for a summer feed. Think palm trees, poolside vibes, and share plates perfect for lazy grazing. Order a cocktail jug, tuck into fresh seafood or gourmet sliders, and soak up the breezy, coastal atmosphere.

Just a short stroll away are other gems like portside pub The Boat, premium craft brewery Indian Ocean Brewing Co, and dog-friendly Union Kitchen all offering water views and menus made for lingering.

As the sun starts to dip, The Marina Mindarie is arguably one of the best spots in the region to farewell the day. Wander along the boardwalk with a gelato in hand, or grab a table and raise a glass as the sky turns from peachy pink to deep indigo.

Still not ready to head home? Stay for live music, a cheeky nightcap, or spend the night in a luxury seaside suite, because summer in Wanneroo isn’t a one-day affair. From sunrise swims to sunset sips, every hour here is pure magic.
